Welcome Spring 2018!
Whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow, here in Canada we are ready at the drop of a hat (so to speak) to lose our parkas, and sport cargo shorts with black socks and sandals the moment we hear the birds come back and see the slightest glimpse of Mr. Sun. In fact, the moment the temp is above 5 degrees we find the nearest patio that’s has shelter from the wind!
So seeing that we are just on the tip of spring, here is the first part of Big, Bold, Bright, the best words to describe the colours and exciting details we are seeing this season!
The introduction of the Spring/Summer Pantone Colours always causes a stir! There is a vibrancy we are seeing with some bold, deep-toned surprises thrown in for good measure!
We have the lighter group of tones like Blooming Dahlia, Pink Lavender and Harbour Mist which satisfy our want for pale pastels.
Bold new, soon to be favorites, like Cherry Tomato, Lime Punch and Pink Crocus which are unapologetically bright.
Lastly, deep, rich surprising tones Like Chili Oil, Emperador and Ultra Violet which make amazing transition colours from the chill of now into the full bloom of spring in late April or May.
I want to chat about two major treads in this edition; Blooming Flowers and the Chanel Look.
“Honey, everything coming up roses for me and for youuuu” from Gyspy, Musical, Broadway 1959.
As the snow blows lightly this evening I’m reminded that in March no matter how warm one week is there is always one that follows that plunges us right back down into the minuses. So it is frankly a relief when we can live vicariously though our clothes. Flowers are back, baby! We are seeing them in prints, embroidery and appliqués! Everything will be adorned like purses and shoes. We’ll see it in accessories, lining of bags and on clothing of course!
“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” Coco Chanel, French Fashion Designer
Founder and namesake of the Chanel Brand, Coco Chanel’s amazing inspiration has stood the test of time and is again reemerging for this season. So throw on some pearls and don’t get too caught up on it looking perfect. Pair a Chanel Inspired jacket with jeans and go for gobs of chains with a little flower in your hair.
In the next edition we’ll talk crazy legs, high contrast, sleeves and shoulders and so much more!!
